The car is the only example that left the factory finished in Sunburst Yellow (56) with a power-operated white soft top, according to the Buick Stage 1 registry document displayed in the gallery. The car was reportedly repainted under current ownership and features a white top boot, quadruple headlights, twin hood scoops, Stage 1 badging, a dual-exhaust system exiting through the rear bumper, and chrome trim on the bumpers, rocker panels, wheel arches, and side mirrors. A driver’s side headlight ground was repaired after the photos were taken.
The 15″ Buick Rallye-style wheels wear BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires measuring 255/60 up front and 295/50 out back. The car is equipped with Rallye Ride Control suspension and features front and rear sway bars, power steering, and power-assisted front disc brakes along with rear drums. A full-size spare tire and bumper jack are stored in the trunk.
The cabin features bench seats upholstered in white vinyl and accompanied by matching door panel inserts, a black dashboard, and black carpets. Woodgrain trim lines the lower dashboard, and additional equipment includes air conditioning, lap belts for the front occupants, a front fold-down center armrest, power windows, and a push-button AM/FM radio. The cruise control does not work. The seller notes that Dynamat sound insulation has been added.
The three-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column and fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and a combination gauge with readouts for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 455ci V8 was bored 0.030″ over and rebuilt in August 2013 by Wildcat Performance of Valdosta, Georgia with Wiseco pistons, a COMP Cams camshaft, an Edelbrock B4B intake manifold, and an MSD distributor. The Rochester four-barrel carburetor was reportedly modified at that time and the cylinder heads were ported and polished. TA Performance tubular headers are also installed along with two Sunpro gauges mounted in the engine bay displaying coolant temperature and oil pressure. The removed factory intake and exhaust manifolds are included in the sale.
The engine serial number stamping sequence includes 2H109111, which corresponds with the final eight characters of the car’s serial numbers. Engine code “WS” is shown in the gallery and designates a 455ci Stage 1 for the 1972 model year.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission and 3.42:1 Positraction differential.
