The 11th-Series Packard models were introduced in August 1933 with styling revisions across the range including more forwardly expansive front fenders and a fuel filler integrated into the left taillight housing. The Twelve lineup featured offerings on three different wheelbases, including 11 different body configurations available on the 1107 model’s 142” wheelbase.
Designated as style number 736, this example’s Club Sedan coachwork features a fixed roof with a fabric panel, four centrally latching doors, and an integrated trunk. The body is said to have been repainted during the 1980s refurbishment in its current two-tone orange scheme, and imperfections are noted on the corners of the centrally hinged hood panels. Features include counterweighted front and rear bumpers, dual pivoting Pilot-Ray driving lights, thermostatically controlled grille shutters, a pelican radiator mascot, and a fold-down rear luggage rack. A CCCA National First Prize badge is affixed ahead of the right-front door.
Orange-painted 17” wire wheels wear bright hubcaps and beauty rings and are wrapped in Lester wide-whitewall bias-ply tires, while dual side-mount spares are housed in fender-color covers that host side mirrors. The selling dealer notes that the tires should be replaced before highway use. Braking is handled mechanically by drums at all four wheels with servo assistance that can be adjusted in intensity via a switch on the dashboard.
The cabin is trimmed in tan tufted cloth over front and rear bench seats with matching upholstery over the door panels, back of the front seat, and rear side panels. Additional features include color-matched carpeting, woodgrain door caps and window frames, a robe rope, rear footrests, a fold-down central rear armrest, and ashtrays with cigar lighters on each side of the rear bench.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a woodgrain dash panel that houses a pair of gloveboxes and a radio. Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a clock, and gauges monitoring oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, approximately 50 of which have been added under current ownership.
The 445.5ci V12 features an integrated block and crankcase, a 67° angle between cylinder banks, side valves, and a dual-throat Stromberg downdraft carburetor. Output was factory rated at 160 horsepower. Service in preparation for the sale is said to have included an oil change, replacement of the fuel filter, and lubrication of the chassis.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Suspension at each end incorporates leaf-sprung solid axles with double-acting hydraulic lever-arm shock absorbers that can be adjusted for firmness via the Ride Control knob under the dash. The chassis also features a Bjiur automatic lubrication system.
