This Shelby convertible left the factory finished in Candyapple Red with a white convertible top. It is said to have been repainted as part of the aforementioned 1986 refurbishment and was refinished again in 2010. Details include gold side stripes, a vented fiberglass hood and nose extension, a fiberglass trunk lid with a ducktail spoiler, rectangular driving lights, quarter panel air scoops, a roll hoop, side mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets that exit through the center of the rear valence. Bright trim adorns the rear bumper, windshield surround, and front fascia. Images showing a hole and discoloration in the soft top are provided in the gallery.
The 15″ five-spoke wheels feature chrome lips as well as Cobra-logo center caps. BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires measuring 235/60 are mounted at all four corners. The power steering system has been removed, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black vinyl. The front seats wear red accents, and woodgrain trim adorns the dashboard, center stack, and door panels. Additional equipment includes a center console, a clock, an aftermarket AM/FM cassette stereo, bright door sill protectors, GT500-branded rubber floor mats, and lap belts for four occupants. Both the cabin and trunk floors were replaced as part of the 1986 refurbishment.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts an 8k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and gauges displaying fuel level and coolant temperature. Stewart-Warner gauges in the center stack indicate amperage and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer is believed to have rolled over and now shows 131 miles. Approximately 14k miles are said to have been added under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.
The 428ci Cobra Jet V8 was factory rated at 335 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. A replacement four-barrel carburetor was installed in 2022, according to the seller.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed C6 automatic transmission and a Traction-Lok rear axle. Additional underside images are provided in the gallery.
Copies of a 1969 Shelby order form and invoice reveal that the car was initially ordered by and delivered to Larson Ford of White Plains, New York.
A copy of the Shelby window sticker lists factory equipment along with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $5298.38.
